Mary L. Smith, 93, of Westwood, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of the late Carl N. Smith, who passed away in 1998.

Born in Ashland, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Byrnes Zealburg and Joseph Zealburg. An area resident for 51 years, she was a involved in the Westwood Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts , the Westwood Ladies Prayer Group and she was a parishioner of the Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church in Parkesburg. She was employed by Bell Telephone as an operator. Mary was an avid basketball player.

Gwendolyn F. Walters Hayes, 96, of the Heatherwood Retirement Community of Honey Brook, formerly of Hindsboro, IL, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at the Brandywine Hospital. She was the widow of William Walters, who died in 1982 and also of J. C. Hayes, who passed away in 2004.

Angela C. Schaffer, 41, of Chester Springs, passed away on Wednesday August 5, 2009 at the Chester County Hospital. Born in Richardson, Texas, she was the daughter of James and Barbara Darnell Morris of Plano, Texas.

Dr. Howard O. Thompson, 74, of Punta Gorda, Florida, formerly of Coatesville, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2009 in Punta Gorda. He was the beloved husband of Patricia S. Thompson with whom he shared 49 years of marriage.

LeRoy Glatts, 79, of Atglen, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2009 at the Harrison Senior Living Center of Christiana. Born in Parkesburg, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Glatts.

An area resident his entire life, he retired from the Lukens Steel Co. in 1992. He was a member of the American Legion Benner Shoff Post 865 of Christiana and the VFW Post 7418, P. J. Bair of Gap.
