Meriam E. Criswell McCord, 85, of Newark DE, formerly of Oxford, PA passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at the University Community Hospital in Tampa, FL. She was the widow of the late John McCord, who passed away in 1998 after they had shared 54 years of marriage together.
Born in Parkesburg, Meriam was the daughter of the late Charles Lloyd Criswell and Lillian Elizabeth (McMinn) Criswell. Meriam was a 1943 graduate of the Coatesville High School. She was employed at the Jennersville Community Hospital of West Grove for 14 years, retiring over 34 years ago. Meriam was a member of the Manor Presbyterian Church of Cochranville, where she was apart of the Ladies Church Group and the Bible Study. She was also a member of the Roses in Winter.
She was a resident of Oxford for 57 years and had only resided in Newark for the past five months.
She is survived by six children: Shirley Parsons, wife of Mark, of Tampa, FL, Joyce Miller of Nottingham, PA, Linda Uniatowski, wife of Jim, of Elkton, MD, Carol Hougnon, wife of Daryl, Sandy, UT, Meriam Krout, wife of Ray, of Newark, DE, and John McCord, husband of Helen, of London, UK; 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and, siblings, Robert Criswell of New Holland, Martha Shank of Parkesburg, and Chester Criswell of Nottingham, PA.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 11:00 am from the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA followed by interment at Georgetown Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing at the funeral home from 10 to 11:00 am.

Dear McCord Children:
How sad I was to hear about your Mom's passing. She meant so much to Bruce, Rick and I, but especially to our Mom, Betty. They became such good friends during the years we were neighbors and remained steadfast friends until our Mom passed away in 2003. I have great memories of 'Auntie Mim'.
I'm sorry I will not be able to attend the services for your Mom, as we have moved to FL.
May the peace of our Lord be with you in this time of grief and sorrow.

When someone departs sadness engulfs you it is because the loss is felt so strongly and the impact they had on our life is truly missed, but remember God has other plans for her now. A new chapter in her life is just beginning and she will have a new work to do in his kingdom. The gifts she brought into your life will continue and be shared again. She goes before you to prepare a place in his kingdom for a time when other family members will join her. God only takes the best and he now has another angel.

Anytime is difficult to loose a loved one but it is especially difficult to loose one's parent. May you you find peace and comfort through your memories and the love and support of your family and friends. Dear McCord Children,
We are so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. She was very special to my Mom as your whole family was to ours. Although I was very young, I still have some faint memories of going over to your place in the country, playing around old cars and for some reason I vaguely remember seeing Bruce and Johnny go out accross the fields on bikes clad in capes...maybe just my imagination. We often visited Auntie Mim in Oxford as well. I remember she always had a little something for me to snack on or play with.
