Donald W. Martz, 73, of West Caln Township, PA, passed away at his home surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.  He was the husband of H. Louise (Swisher) Martz for over 54 years.  Born in Berwick, PA, he was the son of the late William and Jeanette (Kreasy) Martz.

Donnie was a graduate of Coatesville High School and was a self-employed contractor.  He built over 50 houses as well as worked on numerous commercial projects and smaller renovations.  He was a highly skilled builder and completed all aspects of construction on his own from design through electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.  He got his start in building through his work with an outstanding mentor and he has served as a mentor to many.  He built and lived in three homes.  Donnie had a vision of keeping all of his family close and is fortunate to have built houses for himself and his daughters all on the same adjoining property.

He served his community for over 40 years through his leadership in West Caln Township.  He was the Chair of the West Caln Township Board of Supervisors, served as a township supervisor and was also a member of the West Caln Township Planning Commission.  He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd of Coatesville and the Honey Brook Masons.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his daughters, Dawn Martz-Porter (Timothy), and Susan J. Martz (Charles Clendenin), grandchildren; Evan and Gavin Porter and Delano Clendenin, and siblings; Edward Martz of Coatesville, Ruthie Roland of Honey Brook, and Kathy Taylor of Coatesville.

At Donnie's request, instead of a funeral there will be a  Celebration of Life Party, held this Saturday, February 24, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Wagontown Volunteer Fire Company, 412 W. May God Bless him. One of the best I've ever known.... rare breed ... kind and generous. You could just sense the loving relationship he has with his lovely wife, Louise. Louise is also a special person. Wonderful couple. Donny and his kindness will be greatly missed by myself and my husband. ...... Kathy and Bob Jeffers.

Donny was a one-of-a-kind!  Always had a smile on his face and would offer a helping hand to anyone that needed it. He would always wave hello if I was outside working and even stop in sometimes just to say hello, chat and see if we were doing ok after my husband passed away.  He will be missed by many, I am sure.  From the Scott Family to the entire Martz Family, you are all in our thoughts and prayers at this time.  God Bless You All.

I'm thinking of you and your family during this difficult time. I work with Susan, and she is one of the kindest people I know. I am sure she gets part of her humor and wonderful personality from Donnie! I hope that your best memories with him give you comfort and peace throughout this time as well as the years to come. Sending love, prayers and positive vibes your way. Love, Christy from PVIS.

Dawn-

I was in complete shock. I am so very sorry to hear about your dad. I know how much you loved him just in the way you spoke of him. Gavin and Evan spke of him at the shore because I think he gave one of them a truck. My heart hurts for you. Please know I am thinking of you and your family. If there is anything I can do please reach out.

Donnie was such a cheerful and loved person that always looked for and greeted people he worked with at Rockland.  He always had a twinkle in his eye!  He even thought to bring us bags of cookies from the bakery outlet on several occasions.  I am sorry for your loss of such a beautiful soul here on Earth. I hope that you know he is loved closely by God and His angels, too.

I knew Donnie all the way back to Mrs Irons school bus.  He built my first house, which I helped by laboring for him. I learned enough to become a builder myself and had a great career at building. Running into him at LOEWS was always a joy. RIP Donnie, you were a great guy.
