Memories of Mom
Memories of Mom
By Sam Trommler – 6/29/23
Mom was so diligent in every way,
The cleaning, the laundry, the meals each day.
I never remember making my bed,
Because it was quickly made by mom instead.
But what I learned from watching my mom each day,
Has impacted my life in so many ways.
At our house a dirty dish is quickly cleaned,
And I became a bed making fiend
As a young man I moved out to live on my own,
While knowimg the door was always open at home.
So when sickness would come knocking at my door,
And something gross showed up on my floor,
I’d hop in my car that very day,
To head to mom’s where I knew I could stay.
I was always welcomed with open arms,
And a heart to help heal me, from any harm.
As time goes by we may remember things differently,
But on this one thing we can all agree.
Mom’s love for us was steadfast and true,
In the good times and bad to help see us through.
Mom told me that the best thing that happened to her,
Was when the failed knee replacment, did occur.
Not able to walk, she focused deeper on the Lord,
And her faith really blossomed,
as she spent more time in His Word.
Now trapped in a body that could walk no more,
She stepped into freedom, in God’s love she was secure.
Dying to self and circumstances she was able to see,
The needs of others as greater than a useless knee.
Her burden for others was multiplied,
Her yearning to see them come to abide,
In the love of the Lord that filled her heart.
The only love that fills and frees, and will never depart.
Confined to a small room, in a care faciity,
Her time was filled with some new ability.
Cards were colored, written and sent with care,
To people in mom’s heart, who were bathed in her prayers.
Every card she sent out was filled with love,
Written by mom’s hand, but authored from above.
Though she walked through the valley of the shadow of death,
She feared no evil, through her very last breath.
God’s presence was with her, He always abides,
Because to Christ she had surrendered, she had been crucified.
And the life she had lived, she lived for her Lord,
Loving others through His love and the power of His Word.
Mom left us a legacy for us to follow,
As we focus on others and our pride we swallow.
All the lives mom touched will only be known,
When together we meet in our heavenly home.
