John Joseph Cordivano, Sr., 85, of Parkesburg, passed away on Saturday, December 18th under the care of Brandywine Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Sara Marie Cordivano, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.
Born in Toughkenamon, Pa., he was the son of the late Elizabeth (Miller) and Guy Cordivano. He was a 1954 graduate of Kennett Consolidated High School in Kennett Square PA. He worked as a manager at Laurel Valley Farms in Avondale, PA. He was qualified as an expert grower in the Mushroom Industry and did consulting work in Quito Ecuador South America.
John belonged to Oxford Church of the Nazarene and served on the Local Church Board. He taught Sunday School for a number of years and lead 3 missionary trips.
John served in the Delaware Army National Guard. He enjoyed participating in and watching the playing of various sports. Hunting, fishing, boating, hiking, and reading were all a part of his interests.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by his children: John Cordivano, Jr., Rebecca Kinder, Philip Cordivano, and Joanna Aubry; grandchildren, Nadine Herbert, Brittani Kinder, Adrielle Miner, Conner Kinder, Katherine Cordivano, Sara Aubry, and Jennifer Aubry; and great-granddaughter, Isabella Miner; siblings, sister Josephine Del Nero and brother Michael Cordivano. He was predeceased by his brothers Francis Cordivano and Robert Miller.
There will a private graveside service for immediate family only.
A memorial service will be held at the Nazarene Church in Oxford, PA on the 22nd day of January at 11:00 AM.

We are so very sorry for this loss for you, the kids, the grands, the church, and anyone whoever knew him. There has not been such a man as John Cordivano in our lives. His gentle and humble manner belied the brilliant, witty, strong, wise, incredible man he was. I was always so impressed with his wealth of knowledge. And yet, even his wisdom didn't eclipse his sincerity and love for others. I couldn't help but notice you two when you walked in the back doors of the sanctuary, week after week. John was looking more and more frail, but he still came. More than once, I was brought to tears as I watched this man enter to worship his great and mighty God. I cannot imagine his Welcome Home party. We love you deeply, Sara. We are praying for you.
A good friend
My condolences to John's family on his passing. I remember him as a colleague who was always up for a good laugh and never took himself or the events surrounding us too seriously. That was an excellent trait to have when working in the mushroom business. He was gracious and helpful when I moved my family to the Kennett area. We shared many good times together going fishing or to baseball games. He was an integral part in making Laurel Valley Farms a leader in composting in Pennsylvania. Life goes by so quickly and I would have liked to spent more time with John after he retired but the times we did get together were precious and fun. John was a colleague a mentor and a friend and I will greatly miss him.

Sara and Family, I have been cutting John's hair for over 25 years although I knew him in his younger days through my cousin in Kennett Square. John was a very distinguished gentleman whom I will miss. My prayers are with you at this time. Jack Assetto
