Frances E. Smith, 91, of Coatesville, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2019.  She was the wife of the late John "Cap" Smith.  Born in Compass, PA, she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Edith E. Stern.

Frances was a graduate of Coatesville School of Nursing and retired from the Brandywine Hospital.  She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Compass.

She is survived by her daughters, Barbara (Butch) Gabel of Middleburg, PA, and Nancy (Tracy) Miller of Gap, PA, grandsons, Craig (Rachel) Gabel of Middleburg, PA and Dr. Keith Miller of Mrytle Beach, SC and two great grandchildren; Joseph and Caitryn Gabel of Middleburg, PA. She was preceded in death by her brother Ellis Stern. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life service on Sunday, October 27, at 2:00pm from St. John's Episcopal Church, 1520 W. Kings Hwy, Gap, PA 17527 with visitation from 1:00 until service time.  Interment in adjoining cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to St. John's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund at the above address or the Tel-Hai Care Assurance Fund,  P.O. Box 190 Honey Brook, PA 19344.

Yet another member of "the Greatest Generation" goes home to the Lord. I know Fran was ready, and I'm sure Jesus welcomed her with open arms and a big smile. I was priviledged to have know her and served as her priest. She was a blessing to our parish and will long be remembered. Keeping her family in my prayers for God's comfort and peace. A most amazing lady. She meant so much to me. She and Uncle Buddy came to our house every Sunday, Nana (Uncle Buddy's mother) lived with us and they came to see Nana. I'm sure my Mom is throwing a great "welcome to Heaven" party for her and she is with the love of her life. Rest in Peace Aunt Fran.

so very sorry for the loss of Frannie. A vibrant ,funny person who brightened my days with her sassiness. I will miss her presence and am grateful to have had the opportunity to have shared in her life. ♥️
