Charles A. Butcher, 89, of Parkesburg passed away peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of the late Marie Marlene Brown Butcher who died in 2006. Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Edward L. Butcher and Nora Mae McKimm Butcher.
Charlie was a Parkesburg resident most of his life. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953 and was wounded in action during the Korean War receiving the Purple Heart, the Korean Service Medal with three battle stars, the United Nations Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
He was employed by the former McGrails Nu-Pak Corporation of Parkesburg and later by the Coatesville VA Medical Center as a nurse.
Charlie was a member of the Parkesburg Fishermens Club, first African American Baseball Team and he enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by four children; Marvin Lewis Butcher and wife Kristy Davis, Charles Andrew Butcher, Jr. and wife Jeanne, Anna Marie Butcher-Thompson and husband Raymond and Nora Mae Butcher and companion John Baker all of Parkesburg, 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and two siblings; Paul George Butcher and Gloria Edith Watson both of Coatesville. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter Teresa Butcher.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Coatesville VA All Faith Chapel, Building 72,1400 Blackhorse Road, Coatesville, PA 19320 with the Rev. Beatrice Nichols officiating. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing at the Chapel from 10:00 AM to the time of the service.
