Elam L. Thompson, 92, of West Fallowfield Twp., Atglen, passed away on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at his home. He was the widower of his beloved wife, Helen Richey Thompson, who passed away in 2004 after they had shared 54 years of marriage together.
Born on the farm in which he passed, he was the son of the late T. Phillips Thompson and Ruth L. Landis Thompson. He was a 1936 graduate of the former West Fallowfield High School. He farmed his land his entire life, and was also a School Bus Driver for 20 years with Althouse Transportation.
He was a member of the Skerrett Lodge #343 F. & A. M. of Cochranville since 1945, and he was the oldest living member of the Penningtonville Presbyterian Church of Atglen, holding membership for 71 years. He was also a member of the Cochranville Fire Co.
He is survived by his children: Helen L. wife of Donald Taylor of Nokesville, Va., William L. Thompson and wife Rebecca of Atglen, Sandra R. wife of Scott Richards of Elverson, Kurt A. Thompson and wife Danise of Atglen, Becky T. wife of David Troop of Cochranville, Patricia T. wife of Nicholas Softchin of Atglen and Phillips H. Thompson and wife Susan of Cochranville; 16 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Jay E. Thompson in 1985; one brother, Robert and two sisters, Mary and Ruth.
The Funeral will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Penningtonville Presbyterian Church, Main St. & Ridge Ave, Atglen with Rev. Jason Link officiating. Interment will follow in the adjoining Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing, which will be held from 9 until 10:50 a.m., at which time The Masonic Service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Elam's memory to either the Penningtonville Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 282, Atglen, Pa. 19310, or to the Neighborhood Hospice Center, 400 E. Marshall, West Chester, PA 19380.
