102 Years
Honey Brook

B. Ira Needham, 102, of Honey Brook, formerly of Coatesville, went home to be with the Lord, on Monday, February 28, 2022 at his home surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of Jean E. Thompson Needham, whom he shared 60 years of marriage with before she passed away in 2011. Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Benjamin C. Needham and Virginia Wood Needham.

Ike was an area resident all his life. He was employed by the Lukens Steel Company of Coatesville for 26 years retiring in 1983 as a quality control observer.

He proudly served in the US Army during WWII with the 106th Infantry Division, 591st Field Artillery Battalion. On the first day of what would later be called the Battle of the Bulge, Ike and his cannon crew were overrun. After five days behind enemy lines, they managed to move undercover at night and get back to the "safety" of the American lines.

He was a member of the Lukens Veterans' Guild, a life member of the American Legion and Odd Fellows. He was also an active member of Wagontown Union Chapel. He enjoyed hunting, playing golf, and eating at Kelly's with his nephews, closest friends and the amazing staff that treated him like royalty. Most of all, he loved spending time with family & friends, especially the grands.

He is survived by one daughter Robin J. Needham, with whom he lived with, three granddaughters; Joy Stewart and husband Bear of Coatesville, Rachael Killian and husband Mick of Honey Brook, Liz Taylor and husband Kris of Coatesville, and eight great grandchildren (Jacob, Faith, Ava & Brynn Stewart, Kaedin & Avri Killian, Cohen & Miles Taylor). He was preceded in death by one great grandson, five sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Wagontown Union Chapel, 469 W Kings Highway, Coatesville, PA 19320 with visitation at the church from 9:30 AM to the time of the service. Interment, with military honors, will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Coatesville, PA

My heartfelt sympathy to you on the passing of your Dad. I will always be grateful for the kindness he showed to my folks. He often visited Dad to share a cup of coffee, a slice of pie
and recall their many years of friendship and always recounted days at Bear Track Lodge♡

Robin,
We wish you and your family our condolences. Although we didn't get to know your dad very well since we are new to the community, he was always so friendly, nice and had a smile. After reading about his life, we have learned what a special man he was.
