John Joseph Mullen

John Joseph Mullen, 80, of West Grove, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Margaret Kay Reed Mullen with whom he shared 48 years of marriage. Born in Morton, PA he was the son of the late James Archibald Mullen and Catherine Schmidt Mullen.

John was a 1958 graduate of St. James High School in Chester. He proudly served in the US Navy from 1958 to 1962 as a Radarman Third Class. He served on the William C. Lawe (DD-763) from November 1959 to 1960 then on the USS Eugene A. Greene (DDR-711) from November 1960 to June 1962.

He was employed as a lineman/splicer for the Bell Atlantic/Verizon Company for 36 years retiring in 2000.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, archery, canoeing, riding motorcycles, reading, gardening and spending time with his family. He helped co-coach the Avon Grove Recreational Softball League and he was a member of the Mid-Del Archery Association.

He is survived, in addition to his wife, by four children; Gary Futcher and wife Lynn of Benton, PA, Gail Schiefelbein and husband Bob of Kimball, MN, James Gregory Mullen and wife Toni of Myersville, MD, and Andrea Kaufmann and husband Christian of Cochranville, PA, 11 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and one sister Jane Vance and husband Gerry of Chandler, AZ. He was preceded in death by one brother James Paul Mullen.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 2, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Faggs Manor Cemetery, 508 Street Rd., Cochranville, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Chatham United Methodist Church, 3215 Gap Newport Pike, West Grove, PA 19390.
