Samuel E. Mattson, Sr.

Samuel E. Mattson, Sr., 71, of Coatesville, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at his home.  
 
Born in Coatesville, he was the son of Bertha (Frame) and Charles S. Mattson.
 
A lifelong resident of Coatesville, Samuel worked at the former Lukens Steel in the EMS Maintenance Dept.  He was a life member of the West End Fire Co., the Lukens Veterans Guild and the Polish-American Citizens Club.  
 
He was an avid car enthusiast.  
 
Samuel is survived by his three children: Sam Mattson, Jr., husband of Kimberly, of Caln Twp., Sandy Mattson Walton of Peach Bottom, Pa., and Brenda Mattson of Coatesville; 12 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and two brothers, William Mattson, husband of Janet, of West Brandywine and James Mattson, husband of Joy, of Caln Township.  
 
He was predeceased by his daughter, Susan Mattson, and siblings Linda Kay Mattson, Charles Mattson and Betty Elliot.  
 
The service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Just wanted to tell you all how very sorry we are for your loss. We will always remember that smile on his face and a kind word for us no matter what his day was like. We loved him very much and he will live on in our hearts and yours forever....He will be sadly missed...

Wow... I'm so very sorry to learn of Sam's passing. He was one of the good ones. Always had a kind word and a hug and a kiss for his friends. He was a lot of fun to be around, and I feel very lucky to have known him. He will truly be missed!

Sam would literally give you the shirt off his back- anything you needed, he was absolutely on top of it. He wouldn't hear of you buying him a drink if he couldn't buy one for you, too. :)

I hope to meet him on the other side some day. All my love and prayers to the Mattson family.

I am so sorry to read about Sam's death. He was my partner in the melt shop at Lukens. Whenever I asked his opinion about a job, he always said,
"Well, I'll tell you what I was thinking about that..."
