Roy M. Bracken, Jr., 85, of Parkesburg, died at his home on Sunday, April 15, 2012. He was the widower of Pauline Huyard Bracken who died in 1991. Born in Coatesville, he was the son of Roy M. and Ethel Hoover Bracken.


Roy was an area resident all his life. He served in the US Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater of operations with the Underwater Demolition Unit 13 as a frogman. He was awarded the Bronze Star and three battle stars. After the war, he was employed by the Lukens Steel Company retiring in 1987 as a layout and floor boss.


Roy was a life member of the Parkesburg VFW Post 4480, the NRA, Lukens Veterans Guild and the Parkesburg Fire Company.


He is survived by one brother Robert Bracken of State College, two grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sons; Daniel and David Bracken and two siblings; Betty Zaplitny and William Bracken.


Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at 11:00 am from the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg followed by interment at the Upper Octorara Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing from 10 to 11:00 am.

I am very sorry for your loss. I was Roy's neighbor and spoke with you the other day. Roy was a very kind person and I enjoyed talking to him when I saw him in his yard or walking his dog. My deepest condolences go to you and your family.
