James V. Rice, 85, of Parkesburg, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at the Hickory House Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late Edna Rose Rice who died in 1999. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late John R. and Jane Doreshimer Rice.
Jim was an area resident since 1950. He served honorably in the US Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for valor. Mr. Rice was employed by Penn Dairies of Lancaster retiring in 1987.
He is survived by two children; Terry L. Rice of Honey Brook and Jay Rice and wife Marie of Parkesburg, five grandchildren, two step grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at 11:00 am from the Hopewell United Methodist Church, 852 Hopewell Rd., Downingtown, PA 19335. Interment will follow in the adjoining Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing which will be held at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 am.

I am so sorry for the loss of your dad (granddad also). He will surely be
missed. My memories of him and coming into the Parkesburg office will
remain as fond ones. He offered to drive me for my treatments after my
cancer diagnosis. He was a good man. God Bless all of you - he will see
