Dorothy M. "Dottie" Simmons, 71, of Westwood, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Brandywine Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Barry E. Simmons, Sr. with whom she shared 50 years of marriage. Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Swisher Sweigart. 

Dottie was an area resident all her life and a 1961 graduate of the Scott High School. She was employed for 35 years by Chester County Aviation of Coatesville. She was a member of the Parkesburg Baptist Church where she served as a Trustee and many other church committees. She also volunteered at the Parkesburg Food Cupboard.

She is survived, in addition to her husband, by two children; Robin, wife of Erwin Stoltzfus of Cochranville and Barry E. Simmons, Jr. and wife Colleen of Parkesburg, three grandsons; Kyle Stoltzfus and wife Kelly, Tyler Stoltzfus and Dylan Simmons, and three siblings; Nancy, wife of Fred Tyson, Larry Sweigart and wife Susie and Ronald Sweigart and wife Debbie all of Westwood.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 11am from the Parkesburg Baptist Church, 103 West St, Parkesburg, PA 19365, followed by interment at Upper Octorara Cemetery, Parkesburg. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 to 11:00 am. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Parkesburg Baptist Church at the above address.

She was always very pleasant, cooperative, interested in what you had to say, and happy to be around. I am glad I got to know her a bit over the last couple of years. My Aunt Dottie was a caring sweet Lady that will be missed. She was always glad to see me even when she was not feeling well.

Dear Robin,

I am so very sad to learn of this.  I always enjoyed the time I spent with your Mom.

Robin, Erwin & family,
I was so very sorry to hear of your mother's passing. She was such a nice, pleasant person.
What I remember most was the Media Mennonite Mother-Daughter banquets that we attended.
There were a lot of good memories. God bless her and may she rest in peace. My prayers are

Sending our Prayers and Condolences. Dottie as all people knew was a Very Special Lady. Kev and I so enjoyed Her when we attended the Baptist Church. She was an Inspiration to all that she met. She will be sadly missed. Glad for the time we shared with her when we did. Continued Prayers for All.
