Doris is my mother's best friend, she knew my family well and will be missed. I am the youngest of 9, Doris and Derry supported my family in many ways.

I heard a lot of stories from the past and nothing ever bad. I would think that Doris is now sharing more stories with my mother from heaven. What a great person.

Today was a hard day for me. All of my life, I knew who Doris Baker was. She was my mom's best friend. My earliest recollection of their frendship was from the early 1960's when Doris, Derry, and the three very young Baker sisters came to visit us. Having three daughters of my own, I can only imagine the horror these girls must have felt being exposed to me and my six renegade brothers. I can remember one sister refusing to speak at
all! But they were best friends, who had to see each other. I can still remember how my mom's face would light up when she would talk about their adventures.
But for me, her greatness was how in 1997, after her best friend passed away, she gathered all those broken hearts in my family and kept us stable. A task which she repeated last summer when we lost a sister. I will be forever grateful.
So Baker family, I don't have to tell you about how hard Birthdays, or Holidays will be. But what I can tell you is, when they come, find those young members of the family and have fun with them, give them some lasting memories. It worked for me. And a best friend doesn't hurt either.
