Barry Norman Root, 70, of Gap, passed away Saturday, May 18th, 2019 under the care of Hershey Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Sandra Smith Root.
Born in the former Coatesville Hospital, Barry was the son of the late Madeline "Peg" (Hilton) and Norman F. Root.
After graduating from Coatesville High School in 1969, he joined the Air Force and became an airplane mechanic, obtaining the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge in 1973.
Barry worked for the former Lukens Steel Co. for 42 years, retiring as a Mill Wright in 2015.
Barry had coached Parkesburg Pee-Wee Football when Tony was young. He enjoyed cooking and riding his Harley with his great-granddaughter, Aubree.
Barry is survived by his children: Anthony Root, husband of Misty, and Heather Saunders; stepchildren, Shannon, Stacy, Jason and Christopher; grandchildren, Tristan, Seth, Miranda, Amanda, T.J., Chase, Kevin, Kim, Izabella, and Aiden; and great-grandchildren, Aubree Mae, Connor, Brystal, Paislee, and Emberlyn, sisters, Gloria Gay and husband Dale and Terri Stitler and husband Bill, sister in law Nancy Shumaker and brother in law LeRoy Shumaker and five nephews, Norman, Chris, Matthew, Jason and Adam.
He was predeceased by his son, Kevin L. Root.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 1st at Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg from 1 until 2 PM with a military honor guard presentation at 2 PM.
