Anna Mae Mowrey, 95, of Parkesburg, died on Friday, March 25, 2011 at the home of her daughter. She was the wife of the late Walter M. Mowrey with whom she shared 54 years of marriage. Born in Wilmington, DE on July 5, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Harry D. and Mary A. Lewis McNally, Sr.

Better known to her great grandchildren as Old Mom-Mom, she moved to Parkesburg in 1928 where she attended the Parkesburg High School. She lived in Parkesburg until 1979 when she and her husband moved to Tampa, FL. Anna returned to Parkesburg in 1989 where she has lived with her daughter for the past 22 years.

When Anna was 16, she went to work at the Coatesville Dress Factory and in later years she worked at the Keystone Mushroom Factory and the Parkesburg Dress Factory.

She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Parkesburg where she served on the vestry and as President of the St. Mary's Guild in the 1950's. As President of the Guild, she worked closely with Mrs. Horace Beale to restore the bell in the church tower and the installation of the Chimes. In her early years, she was very active in the Parkesburg Fire Co. Auxiliary and then later in the Parkesburg Senior citizens in the 1970's.

Up until a few years ago, she enjoyed playing bingo several nights a week, traveling, reading, embroidering and going to the casinos. Her last big trip was in 2004 when she went to Las Vegas with two of her daughters to visit her grandson, family and the casinos; she came home a winner as always. She was always proud of her children and very much enjoyed all of her grandchildren.

She is survived by five daughters; Elizabeth A. "Bib", wife of Donald A. Savage of The Villages, FL, Ruth E. "Sis" McEwing and Florence J. "Kip" Hager both of Parkesburg, Mary E., wife of David L. Tennant of Morgantown and Anna M., wife of Russell Baker of Parkesburg, 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, a brother Harry D. McNally, Jr. of Parkesburg and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters; Sarah J. and Dorothy F. McNally.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 11:00 am from the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, followed by interment at the Upper Octorara Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing from 10 to 11:00 am.

Memorial donations may be made in her memory to Neighborhood Hospice, 400 E. Marshall, West Chester, PA 19380.
