Shirley Elaine Root, 88, of East Fallowfield, PA, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Robert L. Root with whom she shared 66 years of marriage. Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late George Pluck and Lulu Bussinger Pluck.
Shirley was an area resident all her life and a 1953 graduate of the former Scott High School in Coatesville. She was employed by the former G and P Garment Manufacturing Company in Coatesville as an inspector. She was a member of the Wagontown Union Chapel in Wagontown, PA.
Shirley and her family enjoyed many yearly trips to Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
She is survived, in addition to her husband, by two children; Brenda Root of East Fallowfield and Dennis Root and wife Sherry of Gadsden, AL., two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by siblings; Miriam McGinnis, Davis L. Pluck, and Edward P. Pluck, Sr.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Wagontown Union Chapel, 469 W Kings Highway, Coatesville, PA. Friends and family are invited to attend the viewing at the church from 10:00 AM to the time of the service. Interment will follow at the Hephzibah Baptist Cemetery in East Fallowfield, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in her memory to the Wagontown Union Chapel at P.O. Box 200, Wagontown, PA 19376.
