Julio E. Acosta, Jr
Julio E. Acosta, Jr, 73, of Coatesville, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at the VA Gardens of Grace Hospice in Coatesville, PA. Julio was born on January 15, 1944 in Playa Guayanilla, Puerto Rico. He was the son of the late Julio Acosta, Sr and Cecilia V. Acosta. The family came to the United States in 1954 and settled in Christiana, Pa. Julio graduated from Octorara High School in 1963, where he was a member of the wrestling team in 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. He served in the US Army from 1965 till 1969, where he was stationed in Korea. Julio shared 48 years of marriage with Viola R. Acosta.
Julio lived in Coatesville, PA for a short time but was a long time resident of the Atglen and Christiana area. Julio worked for Gindy Manufacturing, Bud company, Chertocks Furniture and cab driving. He retired from the VA Medical Center in Coatesville in 2007 after 20 plus years of service. He enjoyed going to Delaware Park and was an avid card player. He enjoyed fishing and bowling. Julio was always quick with a joke and could bring a smile to anyone's face. He enjoyed showing card tricks to his grandchildren and teaching them how to play chess. He was a big fan of boxing and football. He would visit Mt. Zion AME Church in attendance with his wife at times.
He is survived by his children, Teena Butcher, and husband Alex of Coatesville, PA, Rosa Acosta-Kurtz and husband Robert of Coatesville, Pa, Julio E. Acosta and wife Marie of Ephrata, Pa Junior Wilson and wife Amanda of Honey Brook, PA, Marcela Vincenzini and husband Gino of Coatesville, Pa, Robert Kurtz-Acosta and wife Courtney of Coatesville, PA, Mercedez Kurtz-Acosta of Exton, PA and 20 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Also he is survived by his sisters, Lina Jimenez and husband Luis of West Chester, PA, Alecia Collazo and husband Hector of Landenburge, Pa, Ada Diaz of Wilmington, DE, Illeana Regalado and husband Oscar of Kennett, Pa. He was preceded in death in addition to his parents by his son Noel Eugene Acosta, sister Evelyne Acosta and brother William(wito) Acosta.
The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at the VA Medical Center Chapel, 1400 Blackhorse Hill Rd, Coatesville, PA 19320 on Saturday, December 16th at 10:00 AM with visitation from 9-10. The interment will be private and a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by the Wilde Funeral Home of Parkesburg, PA.
