Jane Haslett Worthy
Jane Haslett Worthy passed away quietly in her sleep December 3, 2015 at her Willow Valley home in Willow Valley, Pennsylvania. She was a resident of Willow Valley since
moving there in 2010 after her husband of 61 years, Paul C Worthy, passed away in 2009.
Jane was born March 2, 1921 in Philadelphia, PA. She was baptized, raised in and married at Landsdowne Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Lansdowne High
School in 1939. During World War II, Jane and her twin sister Julia worked at General Electric. Jane worked as a “draftsman” and continued in that role until her marriage in
1948. Jane met her future husband, Paul, on a blind date with her sister Julia and Julia’s husband Harden Vollmer. Jane and Paul were married in January, 1948 in
Philadelphia, PA. During their marriage, Jane and Paul lived in Media, PA where Jane focused on raising their two daughters, pursued her passion for gardening and her love
of needlepoint.
Jane was a strong athlete, playing multiple sports in high school. She and her sister led their Landsdowne HS basketball team to two undefeated seasons in 1937-38 and
1938-39. They continued their basketball careers on the GE Women’s team in AAU’s Philadelphia Industrial League. Jane developed a love of horses when she worked as
an ‘exercise’ girl for local polo pony clubs. In later years, Jane and Paul played tennis together and golfed regularly. In the mid-1980s, Jane was particularly proud when she
received her private pilot’s license - something she and Paul had taken up upon retirement. She also developed a passion for gardening and received acclamations and
awards for her flower entries in both local shows and the Philadelphia Flower Show. While a resident at Willow Valley, Jane served as the Flower Committee Chair for The
Manor at Willow Valley.
Jane was one of four “Haslett” siblings; Catharine Gibson, John Haslett, and Julia Vollmer all of whom have predeceased her. She is survived by her daughters, Diane W
Braselman of Aiken South Carolina, Judith W Henry of Knoxville Tennessee, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at 11:00 am from the Wilde Funeral Home 434 W. Main Street, Parkesburg, PA followed by interment at Edgewood Memorial Park, Glen Mills, PA. Visitation at the funeral home from 10 to 11am.

Jan was a special friend

Jan was a special friend here in the Manor at Willow Valley Communities. I remember she loved sports, especially tennis. She liked managing the flower arrangements in our building and did a nice job. She was always up on the latest fashions, kept up with the National news, and above all loved sports.......She is now resting in Heaven with her loved ones that went before her. I especially enjoyed visiting with her two daughters when they came to visit.

Remembering Aunt Jane
We enjoyed reading some details about dear Aunt Jane. Her caring spirit, her fashion sense and love of sports was evident. ( Her background in basketball skills and involvement with flowers was special to me, Beth, as with some sons on travel and high school teams in the past , we can relate to that excitement! I love to garden, as well.) That's cool that she was so involved with flowers where she lived and I'm sure they were thrilled to have her talents. She always expressed interest in keeping up with the boys school photos and seeing the changes as they got older..John is happy he got to have a short visit with her, with other family members.. when was up at end of October. Thanks Judy for your updates. .Her daughters share that loving, caring spirit. Thinking of you and sending our love. The Haslett's
My Aunt Jane
Look at this fashionista!! I learned a lot about how to look graceful, classy and "put together" by my visits thru the years with Aunt Jane. From picnics on the farm, to Holiday dinners in Media on up to visits @ Willow Valley, Aunt Jane was stylish! My most wonderful times with her was when she would get me alone and be soooo attentive to all my volleyball competitions, my new Nanny positions and especially my dating prospects :-). Always words of encouragement and possibilities and advice. >> sometimes better to hear from an Aunt than your own mother!! To Diane and Judy, love to you both. My plan was to visit Aunt Jane first thing as soon as I landed in PA for Christmas. Glad she's out of pain and enjoying peace... Mary Catharine
I met Jane over 20 years ago as a patient at the dental office where I work. We hit it off since I ran a boarding stable and had horses. Jane was a horse fanatic, like my self. For many years we would meet at Devon for Americas Gold Cup until it moved to Ohio 7 or 8 years ago. We kept in touch through snail mail and email when she moved to Lancaster. I know she had a wonderful long life, but am very sad that she has passed. She will be sorely missed.

Shared Memories
It is certain that I'll have many shared memories of my mother's twin - our annual visit to Media, both families at the shore, picnics at the Gibson's farm, etc. It is still surprising though to discover the unknown details of someone whom I thought I knew well, i.e., her pilot's license and passion for horses! I will always be grateful for how Aunt Jane took over providing clothes and coordinating hair dressing for mother after her stroke. It was one burden less for me. Here is a newspaper photo of General Electric's twin power forwards, Jane and Julia, squeezing out an opponent for the rebound. What a pair! And now together again. Let's pray there's a hard court up there for them.
Fondly Remembered
Its not everyone who can say they had the kind of childhood we did growing up in Highmeadows. There was a group of husbands and wives "The Gang" who got together frequently along with all of their respective kids. Approximately 12 kids. (I think. It's hard to remember back that far!) There are so many wonderful memories of those years!! Unfortunately, there are very few of those parents left but Jane hung in there and it's such sad, sad news to hear of her passing. My parents lived across the street so Jane and Paul were very much a part of my childhood. Jane was a good friend to my Mom when during some trying times it was difficult for some people but Jane always hung in there with her and I never forgot that. After my Mom passed away, Jane was always checking on my Dad to be sure he was ok. And at Christmas every single year, she put a decoration on my Dad's mailbox and a wreath on his door. She was a great neighbor to my parents and to me as well. Jane was a true lady and I remember her showing off all of her floral arrangements. The heart Jane had for others was a rare gift to the many people who had the privilege to know her. To Diane and Judy, I am so very sorry you lost someone so important and special in your life. A mother is one of the most important compasses in our life and it is a deeply sad loss. But remember, through your love, she will always be with you - first, in her lifetime, then forever in your hearts and in your memory. You have my deepest sympathy. Love, Patty
