Howard H. Rogers, Jr., 85, of East Petersburg, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2009.

Born July 21, 1924 in Parkesburg, PA. He was married to his first wife Eily for 30 years until her death. Remarried to Joanne for 20 years until her death.

He is survived by two sons, Patrick Rogers, East Petersburg, and Howard Rogers III, Middletown, IN; four stepchildren, Lisa Nawaz, Macungie, Jody Carpenter, East Petersburg, Greg Carpenter, Mountville, and Michele Carpenter, East Petersburg; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was a member the East Petersburg Fire Co. since 1948, serving as engineer, driver, training instructor and fire policeman; also served as Lancaster Co. Fire School Director.

He served as Mayor of East Petersburg, Council Member, planning commission member and Republican Committeeman. Past President of the Lancaster Inter-Municipal Committee and Pennsylvania Association of Council of Governments. Past Commander of the Pennsylvania Dept. of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and Chapter 107 of Lancaster.

Served in the Army of WWII during the Normandy Invasion. Awarded the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal, European African Middle Easter Service Medal with three Bronze Stars, WWII Victory Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, CIB Badge. He spent 20 years in the Army Reserve retiring with the rank of Captain.

Built Lancaster Elevators with his father after the war which his son Patrick operates today.

Member of the Grace Lutheran Church. Served on Property Committee and as an Usher. Taught Sunday School.

The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church, 517 Queen St., Lancaster PA 17602, followed by a luncheon. Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing at the Church from 9 until 11 AM. Interment will be private.
