William Thomas "Tom" Benning, 73, of Cochranville, PA, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022, in Rising Sun, MD. He was the husband of the late Lois Cole Benning who passed recently in March 2022. Born in Binghamton, NY, he was the son of the late Robert Warner and Clara May Stevens Benning.
Tom was an Octorara High School graduate and worked in maintenance for Lockheed Martin. He attended Manor Presbyterian Church in Cochranville. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army serving two tours in Vietnam.
Tom was a very active member of the Phoenixville Jaycees as well as the state level of the Pennsylvania Jaycees. He was a chapter president, district director, regional director, state vice president and received one of the highest honors, being installed as a JCI, Junior Chamber of Commerce International, senator.
He loved to hunt and go camping as well as spending time with his 15 nieces and nephews. He also enjoyed watching westerns, playing poker with his C.H.A.M.P.S. buddies and was an avid reader.
He is survived by a brother, Dale Robert Benning, of Nehawka, NE. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jacklyn Benning Garforth.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. from Manor Presbyterian Church, 505 Street Rd., Cochranville, PA, with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
