William Scott Benekam, Sr., 93, of Atglen, PA, passed away at his home on Monday, January 3, 2022. He was the husband of the late Emma "Peg" Griest Benekam who died in 2015. They shared 66 years of marriage together. Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late William Benekam and Emma Taggart Scott Benekam.
Bill was an area resident all his life and a 1946 graduate of the former H. Scott High School in Coatesville. He was employed for 41 years at the Lukens Steel Company in Coatesville as a Demurrage Clerk.
Bill was a member of the Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church where he served as a Church Trustee. He also served on the Atglen Borough Council and he volunteered as a Cub Scout Master. He was a 60 member of the Atglen Fire Company. When the Fire Company bought a new fire truck, they held a ceremony and dedicated the new truck to Bill.
He is survived by one son W. Scott Benekam and wife Claudia of Parkesburg, one granddaughter Stacey Craig and husband Steven of State College, PA, four great grandchildren; Chloe Craig, Cole Craig, Cooper Craig and Cate Craig and one sister Lena Hershey of Coatesville, PA. He was preceded in death by one brother Charles Albert Benekam.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church, 1121 Octorara Trail, Parkesburg, PA 19365 with visitation at the Church from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bill's memory to Gateway Church with Hope Box in the memo, Gateway Church, 160 Cowan Rd, Parkesburg, PA 19365.
