Walter J. Pluck

Walter J. Pluck, 94, of Coatesville, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the Hickory House of Honey Brook.  He was the widower of S. Mildred "Millie" Pluck, who passed away in 2000 after they had shared 53 years of marriage together.

Born in Chester County, he was the son of George and Lulu (Bussinger) Pluck.  He was a 50 year member of the Olivet Methodist Church of Coatesville.
He retired from the former Lukens Steel in 1979 after 35 years of employment.
He served honorably in the US Army during W.W.II in the 98th Gen. Hosp.  He was a member of the VFW and won an award from the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Walter was a volunteer for the Coatesville Senior Center and was affectionately called, "The Coffee Man."  He was fire police for Modena, Westwood and Coatesville and belonged to the Chester County Fire Police Assoc.  He was awarded the Silver and Gold Award for his volunteer work in 2000 and was also awarded many "Fire Police of the Year" awards.
In 1996, he was inducted to the Coatesville Hall of Fame for outstanding achievement.
He also volunteered for the Freedom Valley Girl Scouts.
Walter is survived by three daughters, Jean Butler of East Fallowfield, Sally Stringer, wife of James, of West Brandywine and Donna Pluck of East Fallowfield; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; and four siblings, Davis Pluck of Modena, Edward Pluck of East Fallowfield, Shirley Root of East Fallowfield and Miriam McGinnis of Florida.
He was predeceased by his stepson Robert Davidson and three brothers and three sisters.
The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at 11 AM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, followed by interment in the Fairview Cemetery.  The viewing will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 and again on Thursday morning from 10 until 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter's memory to either the Coatesville Senior Center, 22 N. Fifth Ave., Coatesville, Pa 19320, or the Olivet Methodist Church, for All Choirs, 310 E. Chestnut St., Coatesville, PA 19320 or to any Fire Company of your choice.
