Born in Coatesville, Terry was the son of the late Phyllis (Nethery) Alexander.  After graduating high school, Terry joined the US Army in 1965.  He went on to serve in the NATO Force in Germany and in Vietnam.  Terry was discharged having obtained the rank of Sgt. and Tank Commander.  He was awarded two Purple Heart medals.

Upon his discharge, he worked at Millprint Co. in Downingtown for 14 years.  He graduated from Goldey-Beacom College in 1977 with a degree in Business Administration after having made both the Dean's List and President's List.
