Stephen W. Kocik, 79, of Coatesville, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, PA, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2009 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Clarice Kocik, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Born in General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre in 1929, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Pauline Shromko Kocik. He graduated from Coughlin High School of Wilkes-Barre in 1948. Entering the Army in October of 1948, he served in combat in Korea during the Korean Conflict with the 51st Division, Signal Corp, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1951 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He married Clarice in 1952 and they came to live in Coatesville. Stephen worked at Lukens Steel Co. for three years and then at G. O. Carlson for 36 years, retiring in 1992.
He was a faithful member of St. Joseph's Church of Coatesville for 57 years. And a member of the St. Anthony's Italian Club of Downingtown, life member of the West End Fire Co., the Bowling League at Garden Spot Lanes and was an avid golfer.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by his loving son Steve Jr. and wife Jean of Gilbertsville, three much loved grandchildren, Amy Love, Matthew Kocik and Kori Gammon; three great grandchildren, Kali and Thomas; and two sisters, Bertha Kelzeit of Wilkes-Barre, and Mary Ann Boris of Parsons. He was preceded in death by siblings John, Lawrence, George, Albert and Matilda.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 11 AM at St. Joseph's Church, 404 Charles St., Coatesville, PA. Family and friends are invited to the viewing, which will be at the Church from 10 until 11 AM. The interment will be held at the Indiantown Gap Military Cemetery on the following Monday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joseph's Church at the above address.
