Stephen Murphy passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 4, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
Stephen Murphy was born in Coatesville, Pennsylvania in 1950 and was the son of Joseph and Josephine Murphy. Stephen was a dedicated lifelong member of the Coatesville community. He worked at Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation and was a proud member of the United Steelworkers union for twenty years. After leaving Allegheny Ludlum he worked at The Klein Company and most recently Kendal-Crosslands Communities as the Kendal master electrician until his retirement in 2014.
He was an avid reader his entire life and enjoyed cooking. He also enjoyed house-boating with his family and traveling to Key West. Most recently he enjoyed spending time with his family watching Bonanza, The Rifleman, Live PD and Saturday Night Live.
Stephen Murphy is survived by his loving nuclear family; his wife of 46 years Kathleen (Kay) Murphy, his three children, Joseph (Joe) Murphy, Kathleen (Kathy) Mest, and John Murphy. He is also survived by his older brother Jim Murphy, his Sister-in-law Pat Murphy, his brother-in-law Ernie Heidelbaugh, his daughter-in-law Sarah Price-Murphy, his son-in-law Eric Mest and multiple nieces and nephews. He was also a loving granddad to his three adoring grandchildren; Taylor Murphy, Cecelia Murphy, and Katie Mest. He retired a champion of the states game against his granddaughter, Taylor Murphy. He was a giant of a grandad to his granddaughter Cecelia who enjoyed when he lifted her high up on top of the refrigerator to sit. His granddaughter Katie enjoyed visiting Granddad and reading and playing games with him. He is also loved posthumously by his older sisters Patricia (Pat) Heidelbaugh and Kay Thompson.
He will be missed by all. We love you Stephen Murphy and you will live in all of our hearts forever!
The memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 8th at 11 AM at Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, Pa., followed by interment at St. Malachi Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 until 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make a donation to Penn Medicine Hospice of West Chester, 400 East Marshall Street, West Chester, PA.
