Samuel T. Lewis, 91, of Coatesville, passed away on Sunday, March 6th, 2016 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Marlene (Criswell) Lewis with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.
Born in Honey Brook Twp., Samuel was the son of the late Cora Mae (Bones) and Henry Franklin Lewis. An area resident most of his life, he was a graduate of Guthriesville School. He served honorably in the US Army -- 722nd Military Police Battalion in the European Theatre of Operation.
He was employed for 29 years at Downingtown Iron Works, seven years at Norwood Industries of Malvern and eight years at Delaware Container of Coatesville.
Samuel was a member of VFW Post 845 of Downingtown; American Legion Post 0537 of Morgantown; AARP; and Coatesville Senior Circle.
He attended Cornerstone Fellowship Church.
He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to travel and wanted to see as much of the U.S. as possible, which he did upon retirement. He was especially interested in history, gardening and bird watching. Also known for his tall tales and far-fetched stories. And he had an extraordinarily sharp memory.
In addition to his wife, Samuel is survived by his children: Donna Michelle Shade of Coatesville, Barry Samuel Lewis of Warrenton, VA, Cheri Marlene Fuchs of Coatesville, Terre Lynn Lewis of Elverson and Tina Renee Lewis of Elizabethtown; nine grandchildren; eight great grandsons; and two siblings, William Lewis of Downingtown and Marion Morelli of Malvern. He was predeceased by his son Ronald Stephen Lewis and daughter Cynthia Gail Zipeto.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 11th at 11 AM at Cornerstone Fellowship, 101 Kylie's Lane, Coatesville, followed by interment in Forks of the Brandywine Cemetery in Glenmoore. The viewing will be from 10 until 11 AM.
Memorial donations can be made to JDRF, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004 to help cure Juvenile Diabetes.
