Ruth Janet Miller, 96, a lifelong resident of Parkesburg, arrived home in Heaven on Thursday, May 21, 2020 at the Phoenixville Hospital. Born in Parkesburg, she was the daughter of Chester E. Miller, former President of Parkesburg's First Farmer's Bank and Mildred Russell Miller of Stottsville and owners of the Russell Mill. She was also the granddaughter of H.C. Miller, a Parkesburg music composer and contemporary of John Philip Sousa.
Janet was a graduate of the former Parkesburg High School. After graduation she continued her education at Wilson College for Women. She began studying chemistry but her love for children took her towards an elementary bachelor's degree in teaching. She was employed as a school teacher for 16 years at the Benner School in Coatesville until Bible and prayer were removed from Public education.
Many will remember Janet as the camp director of Oak Run Christian Day Camp which was located in Sadsburyville. Many teens found purpose and direction in their lives due to Janet's passion for her Savior Jesus Christ and love of nature.
Janet was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Parkesburg where she taught Sunday School, led Women's Bible Studies and served on the Pulpit Committee. She participated in the Billy Graham Crusades and was a life long supporter of Dr. Graham's ministry.
Anyone who knew Janet appreciated her wit and invigorating discussions ranging from politics, Christianity, to the daily news. She enjoyed writing plays and poetry, traveling to parts of the USA by car with friends, canoeing, badminton and ping pong at her family's cabin.
She is survived by several second and third cousins, and close friend and caregiver, Jenine M. Winters.
Due to the current restriction on public gatherings, services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilde Funeral Home of Parkesburg. Online condolences can be posted at www.wildefuneralhome.com
