Royal Sammis Brush, 91, of Cochranville, passed away on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Southeastern Veterans Center in Spring City, PA. He was the husband of the late Marion Willard Brush who died in 2015. They shared 68 years of marriage together. Born in Huntington, NY, he was the son of the late Clarence George and Kathleen Sammis Brush.
Royal proudly served in US Navy during WWII in the European Theater of Operations. After the war, he graduated from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. He was an owner of Sammis, Smith and Brush Ins. and Real Estate in Huntington, NY and later, when he moved to Chester County, he found employment with Beiler Campbell Realtors of Avondale, PA.
Royal's passion for horses lead him to Chester County after enjoying years as the Field Master for the Smithtown Hunt on Long Island. When he arrived in Cochranville he entered the horse breeding business and enjoyed blacksmithing along with his passion for fox hunting with the Brandywine and Andrew's Bridge Hunt Clubs.
He was a member of the Old First Presbyterian Church in Huntington, NY where he served as a Deacon and Elder and later he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Parkesburg.
He is survived by one daughter Wendy E., wife of William Nelson of Cochranville, two granddaughters; Samantha Smith and husband Thomas of Cochranville and Brittany Anderson and husband Lynn of York, PA, four great grandchildren; Logan Smith, Riley Smith, Bryce Anderson and Tristan Anderson, one sister Joan Heymann of Ellicott City, MD, one nephew Ken Cotter of Ellicott City, MD and one niece Donna Lee Pipkin of Virginia.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 12:00 noon from the First Presbyterian Church of Parkesburg, 511 W. Main St. Parkesburg, PA with visitation from 11:00am to the time of the service.
