Rodger E. Faddis, 87, of Ronks, PA, formerly of Coatesville, died at his home on Sunday, August 5, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Gloria M. Reynolds Faddis with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Chalkley Y. & Gladys M. Emery Faddis.
Rodger was a 1950 graduate of the former Scott High School in Coatesville. While in high school he was a member of the swim and track teams and he loved to dance. After high school Rodger enlisted in the US Navy and served his Country on the USS Midway for five years. While serving he visited many Countries in Europe and Africa.
After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he was employed by the Reading Railroad and later was employed by the US Postal Service serving as mail carrier at Paoli and Coatesville. After retiring from the post office he worked for many years at the Big A Auto parts store of Parkesburg.
He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Coatesville, the Coatesville VFW, and the Christiana American Legion.
Rodger had many hobbies and interests which included building and painting intricate model airplanes, bird watching, hunting, fishing and camping, collecting coins and military memorabilia and reading. He was especially interested in WWII history and met several of the original members of the "Band of Brothers" WWII paratroopers at the Reading Air Show. After receiving a 3rd degree Black Belt in Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan he went on to teach karate and self defense. Rodger was also an avid Flyers fan.
In recent years, Rodger enjoyed telling family and friends of the many experiences he had while in the Navy. Most of all, Rodger loved spending time with his family and friends and he lived life to the fullest everyday. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by three daughters; Leslie Edgar and husband Mike, Robin Flinn and husband Rob, Kim Faddis and husband Daniel, six grandchildren; Tara Arnold, Michael Edgar, Andy Faddis, Julie Wiker, Steven Kennedy and Anthony Kennedy, six great grandchildren; Hannah, Brendan, Leah, Andrew, Joseph and Madison and two sisters; Gail Jesten and Deanna Miller. He was preceded in death by his son Keith E. Faddis.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, August 9th at 7:30 PM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA. visitation from 6 - 7:30 PM. His urn will be buried with military honors at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Monday, August 13, 2018 at 2:30 PM.
