Robert Parke "Ace" Ryan, 94, of Parkesburg, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020, in Coatesville, PA. He was the husband of Susan Ulrich Ryan with whom he shared 26 years of marriage, and his late wife, Audrey T. Ryan, who died in 1989. They had shared 39 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, Bob was the son of the late M. Parke and Mary M. Miller Ryan.
Bob was an area resident all of his life. He graduated from the former Parkesburg High school in 1944, and was a proud member of the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in the 701st tank battalion in the European Theater campaign. Following his discharge from the Army in summer of 1946, Bob was employed by Keystone Mushroom Company as a truck driver. Later he was employed by Armstrong World Industries, as a lab technician in the Research and Development Center, retiring in 1989. Under the GI bill, Bob took classes at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science and later attended Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, working towards a degree in Chemistry.
Bob was a member of the Parkesburg United Methodist Church for over 60 years, serving in various capacities whenever the need arose. He served as assistant scoutmaster in local Troop 135 in the 1970's and served on Parkesburg Borough Council from 1975-1979. Bob enjoyed traveling and baseball, especially the New York Yankees, and spending time with the family.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children; Debbie Miller, wife of Phil, of Parkesburg, Bob Ryan, husband of Cindy, of Paradise, step children; Matthew McKee, husband of Dene, of Philadelphia, Kelley Benson, wife of Dean, of Florida, grandchildren; Ryan Miller, Meghan Termat, Kurt Miller, Tim Malone, Morgan Adams, Matthew Adams, Brooke Benson, Braden Benson, Ava McKee and Adrianna McKee. He was preceded in death by siblings, Winifred McNeal, Frances Quinn, and Paul Ryan.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers who have been so devoted to Bob over the years. These people looked after his every need, treating him with dignity, respect, and most importantly with love. A very special thank you to Deanna, Rebekah, Penny and Mandy. You treated Bob like family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services on Sunday, August 2, 2020, at 3:00 p.m. from the Parkesburg United Methodist Church, 411 Main St., Parkesburg, PA 19365 with a viewing from 2:00 p.m. until service time. Interment will be held on Monday, August 3, at 2:00 p.m. at Atglen Methodist Cemetery. To protect those at-risk, please wear a face mask and practice social distancing at the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Parkesburg Methodist Church at the above address.
