Raymond Eli Lied

Raymond Eli Lied, 97, of Pomeroy, Pa., passed away peacefully at Freedom Village Home on Friday, February 17, 2017, surrounded by family.  Ray was born in Embreeville, Pa, on the 4th of July, 1919, the son of Isaac and Rhoda Wilson Lied.  He was predeceased by Hilda, his loving wife of 69 years, along with three sisters and two brothers.

He is survived by three children, Lois A., wife of Ronald Shaffer, Raymond Edward Lied, husband of Margaret, and James E. Lied, husband of Kathy; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.  Ray was a loving husband, father, grandfather who enjoyed farming and gardening.  He passed that love of machinery and gardening on to his children and grandchildren.

A resident of Chester County all his life, he was a member of the Pomeroy United Methodist Church and the Coatesville Moose Lodge.  He was a farmer for most of his life, part owner of Brandywine Transit Bus Company with his brothers, and later a mechanic.  Before retiring, Ray and Hilda owned and ran the Hi Lo Acres Nursery, Romansville, Pa.  Following retirement, he and Hilda resided in Pomeroy, Pa., where he resumed farming.  Ray often provided family and friends with fruits, vegetables and nursery trees that he was just planting.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 3 PM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, Pa, followed by interment at Romansville FBG. Viewing from 2 until 3 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray's memory to Mooseheart, 1275 Marshallton Thorndale Road, Downingtown, PA 19335.
