A life long resident of Chester County, Gussie was born in Coatesville PA to the late Isaac and Leah Robinson, third oldest of 10 children. At age 9 she and her family moved to Corner Ketch, Downingtown where she met the love of her life. Gussie married her childhood sweetheart Cliff Irons after WWII spending 72 happy, wonderful years together. Cliff and Gussie enjoyed many activities including square dancing, camping, and traveling, eventually visiting all 50 states.
Gussie was always proud of the fact that she was fortunate enough to be in the final graduating class of Gutheriesville High School 10th grade in 1942 and was able to attend the Downingtown Senior High School for 11th and 12th grade thus earning her two high school diplomas.
Gussie had a long and varied career. Her employment included Sarah Coventry fashion show director (recognized for high sales, recruits, and bookings for the entire east coast of the United States) production superintendent secretary at Downingtown Mfg. Co., school bus driver, a store clerk at Bryant's Grocery in Gutheriesville, cake baker for Gutheriesville Luncheonette, executive secretary at Pepperidge Farms to plant engineering retiring in 1985. She then worked for Bill Pusey Contracting for 2 years and then spent 22 years as Personal Assistant to Jim Wagner at Remax Action Associates in Exton, finally retiring for good in 2007. During these times, Gussie and Cliff purchased several rental properties, designed, built, owned and operated the Village Square facility in Gutheriesville. Gussie also devoted over 34 years, from 1966-2000, as secretary-treasurer for the veterans of the U.S. Navy 7th Construction Battalion keeping nearly 500 Seabees in touch by the twice-yearly newsletter she edited and published.
In 2007 Gussie and Cliff moved from the home they had built on Pumpkin Hill in Glenmoore to Simpson Meadows, Downingtown. As her norm, Gussie became involved in several activities in the Simpson Meadows community including various prayer groups.
Gussie was an avid knitter and taught knitting to many others so they could enjoy the craft as well. As a member of the knitting guild, she knitted hats and mittens one year for the White House Christmas tree. She received a picture of that tree, her work hanging on it, with President and Mrs. Clinton standing next to it.
Gussie lost her beloved Cliff in December 2018. She is survived by her 2 children, clinical psychologist Dr. Kathryn Lindenfeld of Bloomsburg, Pa, and TSgt Raymond Irons, USAF, Retired, and his wife Sharrill of Quincy, Ca, 12 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her older brother Norman (Loretta) Robinson, younger brother Carl Robinson, youngers sisters Sally Sisk and Alice (John) Myers as well as many nieces and nephews.
