Norman George Laffey, Sr., 88, of Cochranville, PA passed away at his home on Sunday, July 25, 2021 under the care of his beloved family. Norman was the husband of the late Lois Thomson Laffey (2019), with whom he shared over 66 years of marriage.
Born on Green Hill Farm in West Chester, PA, Norman was the son of the late George J. and Anna Moulder Laffey. Norman started dairy farming on his own in Cochranville in 1951 at the age of 18. He married, raised his family and continued dairy farming (Glenville Farms) with his four sons for over 60 years. Even after he no longer actively farmed, he continued to be a wealth of knowledge about farming operations in and around the county.
Norman served West Fallowfield as Township Supervisor for 9 years and was a member of the Our Lady of Consolation Roman Catholic Church in Parkesburg.
Norman is survived by his sister, Lydia (Leo), his six children: Norman G., Jr., husband of Sue, Karen L. Kauffman, wife of David, Michael E., husband of Kim, George J., all of Cochranville, Lisa A. Hershey, wife of Brent, of Mount Joy, and Andrew I. Laffey, husband of Debbie, of Cochranville.
In addition, Norman is survived by 19 grandchildren: Norman III Laffey, Lori Mearig (children of Norman), Justin Kauffman, Brandon Kauffman, Courtney DePeppe (children of Karen), Sarah Jagelski, Michael Laffey, Joshua Laffey (children of Michael), Erica Zelley, George Laffey, Katrina Patton, Monica Simpson, Christina Leggio (children of George), Colleen, Nicholas and Faith Hershey (children of Lisa), Carolynn, Drew and Bryan Laffey (children of Andrew) and 27 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Norman was preceded in death by siblings, George (Bud) Laffey, John M. Laffey, Virginia (Jean) Mackey, Anne Young, and Elmer Laffey.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend an evening viewing on Sunday, August 1 st , from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Wilde’s Funeral Home, 434 Main Street, Parkesburg, PA or the Monday, August 2 nd viewing at Saint Malachi Church, 76 St. Malachi Road, Cochranville, PA 19330 from 9:00 – 11:00 am followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Interment will be immediately after mass in the adjoining cemetery.
