MARY EMMA BURNS entered this life on January 15, 1948, and has gone to Glory on December 16, 2020. She is the daughter of the late Theodore R and Blanche E Mason.
Affectionately known as “Sis” she was the second of nine children. Sis was educated at Octorara High School in Atglen PA where she was proficient in shorthand and typing. During her tenure at High School she was selected to be a Library’s Assistant.
In 1967 Sis met her future husband Joe Burns. They were united in matrimony in September 1967. Unfortunately, Sis was widowed in 1998.
CAREER AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS: Sis always strived to be successful. As a child, she was a member of the Brownie’s and the Girl Scouts. Sis was employed at the Lenover Corporation in Atglen PA, Grocery Store Products in West Chester PA, and the Veterans Administration in Coatesville and Philadelphia PA. She also sold shoes for Stuart McGuire Company. After leaving the Veterans Administration Sis decided to become Self Employed as a Professional Seamstress. Naming her business “Mary Burns Incorporated”. Sis then became the first Entrepreneur in our family. Sis enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She could knit you a scarf and hat in no time at all. Reading was also one of her passions, as well as watching reality TV shows. She loved Amazing Race, Survivor, Hell’s Kitchen, and Big Brother. She loved to call you on the phone and tell you who was eliminated off the show before you had a chance to watch the episode. She definitely liked to spoil the show for you.
CHERISHED MOMENTS AND FAMILY: Sis is pre-deceased by her parents Theodore R and Blanche E Mason, two sons Theodore R Burns, and one son Clifford Burns who passed shortly after childbirth. Two brothers, Richard Paul Mason and Theodore Raymond Mason. Sis leaves to cherish her memory three sons Robert Mason, Rodney Burns, Abu Ramadan As-Salafi (Tyrone Moore), and one daughter Jamila Burns-Stanton. All of Philadelphia PA. Six sisters, Margaret Mason of Coatesville PA, Patricia Mason, and Dorothy Washington both of Roy New Mexico. Carol Mathis of Atglen PA, Joan Dunham, and Denise Williams both of Oxford PA. Four grandchildren Ramadan Jihad, Zanay Jihad, Susie Carter, Maryam Muneerah Jihad. Four great-grandchildren Alanna Jihad, Marlee Ellison, Mahagoney McKnight, Mya’lynn McKnight. She also leaves to cherish her memory many cousins, nieces, nephews and many close friends.
Services will be held on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St Parkesburg PA 19365 Viewing will be from 9 AM To 11 AM. Due to COVID19 restrictions, a private funeral will be held at 11 AM. In order to protect those at-risk, please wear a face mask and practice social distancing while at the funeral home.
