Margaret "Peggy" (Nee Palmer) Cumens, 91, of Downingtown, formerly of Coatesville, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones on Sunday, February 9, 2025. She was the beloved wife of Gary L. Cumens of Westwood, for 65 years. Margaret was the daughter of the late Esrom L. Palmer and Margaret A. Keith Palmer.
She graduated in 1952 from the former Scott High School where she excelled at her studies in Business and was active in many clubs including marching band, swimming and diving for "the Mermaids" swim club and acted in many "Paint and Patch" drama club productions. After graduatingHigh School she worked at Lukens Steel Company before completing rigorous training to become a TWA airline stewardess. Peggy was also a dedicated school bus driver for the Kraph Bus Company for decades driving high school and college students
Peggy met her true love, Gary Cumens, while playing pool with friends at the "Old Shady Side Inn". She was an avid bowler winning numerous trophies as a member of the Pennsylvania State Womens Bowling Association.
Peggy loved to relax in their RV with her husband, his three brothers and their wives. Some of their best memories were created with these beloved family members: Paul and Joy, Bob and Rose, and Ira and Dottie.
She was a loving mother to children, Karen Cumens Gurnee, Kimberly A. Cumens, Craig and David Cumens. She was also a grandmother to Kelly Gurnee Cortese, Leann Gurnee Flanagan, Jake Cumens, Abby Cumens Purdy, and a step granddaughter, Brooke Frey. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Dickey, Willis and Bob, and an older sister, Ruth Palmer Jones.
