Marcella Applegate

Marcella Applegate, 91, of Honey Brook, previously of Media and Coatesville, passed away on Wednesday, January 11th, 2012 at the Tel-Hai Retirement Home. She was the widow of the late Walter C. Applegate, Jr. who passed away in 2009.


She is survived by three daughters; Danielle Applegate Ebaugh, and husband William, of Tallahassee, Fl., Sandra Applegate, and husband David Riemenschneider, of Ukiah, Ca., and Karen McKelvey, and husband Mark, of East Fallowfield; six grandchildren; and two siblings, Gianfranco Mannucci and Vanna Temperani Mannucci, both of Florence, Italy. She was preceded in death by a sister Bruna Mannucci.


Born and raised in Florence, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Bruno and Emma Seraglini Mannucci. She met her husband Walter while he was serving in Italy with the US Army during WWII. They became acquainted at the Red Cross in Florence, where Marcella was serving as a translator. They married in Florence after the war and she moved to the US in 1946.


Marcella enjoyed traveling and returned often to Italy, maintaining close ties with both her brother and sister and their four children.


She was primarily a homemaker, but also worked in sales at Gimbels department store in Media, Pa. Marcella loved to sew and crafted beautiful quilts for all the members of her family. She was a wonderful grandmother and mother and will be dearly missed. She attended St. Malachi Chapel and was a volunteer with both Meals on Wheels and the Easter Seals.


Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 11:00 am from the Tel Hai Chapel, 1200 Tel Hai Circle, Honey Brook, Pa., followed by interment in the St. Malachi Cemetery, Cochranville. Visitation from 10 to 11:00 am.
