Lyle E. Gillespie, Sr., 76, of Parkesburg, died on Sunday, December 15, 2013 at the Tel Hai Retirement Community. He was the beloved husband of Thelma Hall Gillespie with whom he shared 54 years of marriage. Born in Christiana, he was the son of the late Lyle G. and Marguerite Thompson Gillespie.
Lyle was an area resident all his life and a 1956 graduate of the
Parkesburg High School. He was employed for 44 years by the Lukens Steel in Coatesville as a electrician.
Lyle was a member of the Parkesburg Baptist Church, the Brandywine Goddard Masonic Lodge #383, the Parkesburg VFW, the Moose Lodge of Downingtown and the Parkesburg Fire Company. As a youth, Lyle proudly won 1st place, three years in a row, in the Parkesburg Soapbox Derby. He also was an avid hunter.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by two children; Lyle E. Gillespie, Jr. and Tara, wife of Ben McKinley, three grandchildren; Kodie and Kolbie Janssen and Hannah Gillespie all of Parkesburg.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 11am from the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, PA followed by interment at the Penningtonville Presbyterian Cemetery in Atglen. Viewing at the funeral home from 10 to 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Parkesburg Baptist Church, 103 West St, Parkesburg, PA 19365.
