Lola M. Mccarter Smith

Lola M. McCarter Smith, 91, of Coatesville, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at the Pocopson Home of West Chester, PA. She was the widow of the late Dallas "Buck" Smith and ex-wife of the late Clyde R. "Sonny" McCarter. Born in Sparta, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Robert Rector and Lura Edwards Rector.

Lola was an area resident most of her life. She was employed for many years at Burroughs/Unisys Corp followed by Rainbow Vaccum Company as a Sales Representative. She was a former member of the Friendship United Methodist Church, the Towerville Christian Church and Peak Creek Church of the Brethren in North Carolina.

She enjoyed her rose and flower gardens, and volunteered with Meals On Wheels and Hospice in her earlier years.

She is survived by three children; Ruth Ellen Anderson and husband Doug of West Caln, C. Richard McCarter, Jr. of Sadsburyville, PA and Robin Leigh Whiteman and husband Charles of Coatesville, six grandchildren; Geoffrey H. Bates, Jr., K. Elizabeth Bates, Robert A. Anderson, Richard H. Anderson, Jessica L. Estes, and Laura Fredd-Maxwell and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter; Roxanne McCarter and seven siblings; Liford Rector, Walter Rector, Bayne Rector, Jessie Leigh Smith, Louis Rector, Warren Rector and Reba Estep.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Friendship Methodist Cemetery, 123 E. Friendship Church Road, Coatesville, PA.

The family wishes special thanks to her "North Carolina Angels" and the devoted, caring, and compassionate nurses and staff at the Pocopson Nursing Home.
