Lena Emma "Peg" Benekam, 90, of Atglen, passed away on Thursday, April 9th, 2015 at her home. She was the beloved wife of William S. Benekam, with whom she would have shared 66 years of marriage this June.
Born in Highland Twp., Peg was the daughter of the late Edith (Lantz) and Harry Griest. She was an area resident her entire life.
She was a graduate of West Chester Teachers College. She taught at Unionville Elementary School and would sub at Octorara, Atglen, and Valley Township.
Peg was a member of the Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church, where she had taught Sunday School and was part of the Pollyanna Club.
She is survived, in addition to her husband, by her son, W. Scott Benekam, husband of Claudia, of Parkesburg; granddaughter, Stacey B. Craig of Smithville, N.J.; four great grandchildren; and in-laws, Charles Benekam and Lena Hershey.
Peg was predeceased by her siblings: Newton and Harry Griest, Mary Guiney, Helen G. Przychodzien and Ruth Radcliff.
The Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 on 11 AM at the Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church, 1121 Octorara Trail, Parkesburg, PA 19365 followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. The visitation will be held at the Church from 10 until 11 AM.
