Joyce (Sidney) Martin Freese

September 25, 1927 — December 4, 2017

Joyce (Sidney) Martin Freese, formerly of Coatesville, PA passed away on Monday, December 4, 2017 under the care of Harrison Senior Living Center in Christiana, PA.  She was the widow of Martin L. Freese with who she shared 45 wonderful years of marriage at the time of his passing in 1998.

Born on Hope’s Hill, on September 25, 1927 she was the second daughter of Jane Hope Martin and H. Frank Martin, Sr.  As a young girl she enjoyed life on the farm and developed a love of animals and all living things.  Tender-hearted, yet strong, she lived a full life and maintained her quiet determined attitude throughout.

She graduated from Scott High School, Class of 1946 and went on to become a “Bell Trained” telephone operator out of their Ardmore, PA offices.  Employment was something she enjoyed, whether it was as a Teller at IVB, a Secretary at Weaver Motors or ultimately a Switchboard Operator at Lukens Steel and then Artmark Fabrics, she had an unending work ethic.  Up until 2012 she was a File Clerk for the Brandywine Valley SPCA in the Administrative Offices, bringing her love of animals full circle.

“Family and Faith” where her foundation and she shared openly and unending with all.  There was always a smile and quick comeback or retort in comment. Summers were spent at the Jersey Shore with family and vacations were truly more like adventures!

She is survived by two children:  Robyn J. Freese-Palmer, wife of Kevin Palmer of Coatesville, PA and Dean H. Freese, husband of Sharon L. G. Freese of Good Hope, GA.  Her grandchildren, Krin Mims and husband Matthew reside in Hopkinsville, KY, while Taylor Duke and husband John live in Monroe, GA.

Her sisters, Yvonne H. March (husband Leonard, deceased) and Erma W. Martin (husband H. Frank Martin, Jr., deceased) also survive, along with an extended network of nieces and nephews.

The family is requesting, in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made in her memory to the Brandywine Valley SPCA, 1212 Phoenixville Pike, West Chester, PA  19380 – ATTN:  Rita Schorn.

A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.  Interment and burial will be at Upper Octorara Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by Wilde Funeral Home of Parkesburg, PA.
