Josephine P. Hammond

Josephine P. Hammond, 92, formerly of Parkesburg, passed away on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at the Brandywine Hospital.  She was the widow of Rev. Herbert C. Hammond, who passed away in 1994 after they had shared 56 years of marriage.

Born in Coatesville, she was the daughter of the late Josephine Hammonds Dickinson and Edward Dickinson.  An area resident her entire life, she was a member of the Enon Baptist Church of West Grove, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, a Deaconess and on the Missionary Board.
She is survived by her beloved children: Maxine London, widow of the late Samuel, of Atglen, Julia Hammond of Atglen, Denise Lavender, wife of Alan, of Parkesburg, Herbert Hammond Jr., husband of Shirley, of Coatesville, Edward Hammond, companion of Louise Miller, of Parkesburg, Lawrence Hammond of Coatesville, Arnold Hammond, husband of Renee, of Coatesville and Ritchie Hammond of Baltimore; 32 grandchildren and numerous great and great, great grandchildren; and her brother George Dickinson, husband of Dorothy, of Coatesville.
She was predeceased by her daughters, Lorretta Lomax, Frances Gray, and Marion Hammond and son, Larry Hammond; as well as her siblings, Edward Dickinson II, Mildred E. Hicks, Kathryn Toalton and Doris London.
The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Enon Baptist Church, 297 Willow Street, West Grove, PA 19390, followed by interment in the Mt. Zion AME Cemetery of Atglen.  Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing, which will be held at the Church from 9 until 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Enon Baptist Church at the above address.
