John Lawrence Gentile

August 24, 1943 — August 12, 2021

John Lawrence Gentile, 77, of Strasburg, passed away on Thursday, August 12th, 2021 at Lancaster General Hospital.  He was the widower of the late Rosalie Patricia Gentile, with whom he shared 48 years of marriage.

Born in Philadelphia, John was the son of the late Mary Jane (Ranieri) and Daniel Joseph Gentile.

John worked for the Franklin Mint Corporation from 1966 to 1987.  He was one of the first employees of QVC, starting out as a supervisor in 1987 and retiring as a Plant Manager in 2000.

He was a member of the US Concealed Carry Association, the National Rifle Association, and the Hempfield Farmers and Sportsmen's Association.

John was a W.W.II historian.  He enjoyed reading history books and traveling to both museums and historical sites.  John enjoyed camping, model trains, gardening, and most recently, cooking.  He loved the 57 Thunderbird and would often attend car shows.

John was a very good machinist and a jack of all trades.  He liked playing Pinochle and cards.  He'll be remembered for his sarcastic wit and banter.  Most of all, John loved his family.

He is survived by his three children: John Gentile, Jr., husband of Karen, of Apollo Beach, Fl., Richard Gentile, husband of Bonnie, of Lancaster, PA and Cynthia Meyer, wife of Brett of Chesapeake, VA; one grandson Tyler Meyer; and two siblings, James Gentile and Bernadette Humm.

A funeral service will be held for John on Thursday, August 19th, 2021 at 11 AM at Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg, followed by interment in the Parkesburg Catholic Cemetery.  Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing at the funeral home from 10 AM until the time of the service.
