John A. Lafferty, 83, of Downingtown, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Mary Jane Brenna Lafferty, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.
Born in Wayne, Pa., he was the son of the late Elizabeth Chambers Hanna Lafferty and Charles A. Lafferty. He was a 1943 graduate of the Radnor High School and served with the Merchant Marines during W.W.II. He was employed at the former Lukens Steel Co. in the Pipe Shop for 39 years, retiring in 1986; he then worked for Krapf Buses for 18 years, retiring in 2004.
He was Scout Master of Troop 71 of Wagontown, was a member of The Order of the Arrow and was a Babe Ruth Coach in Caln.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by five children: Ginny Lozinski, wife of Steve, John B. Lafferty, husband of Kathleen, James H. Lafferty, companion of Kelly, Georgeann Flinn, wife of Lewis and Karen L. Billas, companion of John; grandchildren, Robert, Jennifer, Megan, Bronwyn, Brent, Sarah, Erin, Anthony and John John; step-grandchildren, Victoria, Lisa and Lori; great grandchildren, Patrick and Allison; step-great, grandchildren, Christine, Daniel, Chelsea, Zach and Ryan; sister, Elsie Knox and dear friends, Phil, Tammy, Barbara and Carl Vormelker, Norman and Polly Bernard, and Arlene Fenilli. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles, William, James, Suzanne, Elizabeth and Lillian.
The Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 2 p.m. at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St., Parkesburg. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation, which will be held at the Funeral Home from 1 until 2 PM.
