John A. Kennel, Jr.

John A. Kennel, Jr., 89, of Parkesburg, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 9, 2013 surrounded by his family at his home. He was the beloved husband of Mildred Martin Kennel with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Born in Parkesburg, he was the son of the late John A. and Emma S. Kauffman Kennel.


John was an area resident all his life and was a self employed dairy farmer for over 61 years. He was a member of the Newlinville Mennonite Church.


He is survived, in addition to his wife, by five children; John D. Kennel of Parkesburg, Joseph D. Kennel of Strasburg, Susan E., wife of Scott Lincoln of Strasburg, Joy M., wife of Duane Hershey of Coatesville and Emmie J., wife of James Burkholder of Coatesville, 10 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and two sisters; Minerva Kennel and Mary Emma Nafziger both of Landis Homes. He was preceded in death by one daughter Twila Jane Kennel and three sisters; Lena Kennel, Rebecca Beiler and Ada Kennel.


A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 11am from the Parkesburg Mennonite Church, 6 E. 2nd Ave., Parkesburg, PA. The family will receive guests after the church service. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing which will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8pm at the Parkesburg Mennonite Church. Interment will be private at the Millwood Mennonite Cemetery, Gap, PA.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his memory to Willow Tree Hospice, 100 Sycamore Dr., West Grove, PA 19390.
