John H. “Bud” Carrigan, 91, of Nottingham, formerly of Wellsboro, Galeton and West Chester, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 24, 2012.
Born in Russellville, he was the son of the late Elam and Abbey (nee Frye).
He attended school in Unionville.
John honorably served in the Army Air Force during WWII as a sergeant in the medical corps in England, France and Belgium.
Following military service, John worked for A. Duie Pyle Trucking Company, West Chester and Nachman’s Spring Company, West Chester before retiring from Frames Motor Freight, West Chester.
John was very active in the Boy Scouts of America, Chester County Council as an assistance scout master, scout master and numerous merit badge instructor. John was honored with Scouting’s highest honor, the Silver Beaver Award.
John will be missed by his family which includes his three sons, John (and Barbara) Carrigan of Nottingham, Richard (and Charlotte) Carrigan of Peach Bottom and Michael (and Faye) Carrigan of Kennett Square; six grandchildren, Sean, Steven, Jacob, Stacey, Michael and Abby; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Manley, Emily Manley, Jane McManama; and one brother Elam Barnard Carrigan.
John was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Alice (Hammond) Carrigan and a sister, Anna Dilworth.
John’s memorial service will be held privately.
