Jennifer Lee Smoker (nee McCullough), 59, of Gap, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. She was the beloved wife of Samuel L. Smoker with whom she shared six years of marriage. Born in Baltimore, MD, she was a very much loved daughter of Barbara (Shannon) Jackson of Annapolis, MD and the late Irvin Charles McCullough, Jr.
Jen was a 1975 graduate of Catonsville High School in Catonsville, MD. She also attended Cedar Cliff High School in Camp Hill, PA. She was employed much of her life as a legal administrative assistant. Previously, she worked for Thompson Wood Real Estate and the former Piper & Marbury law firm. Most recently, Jen was self-employed as a virtual administrative assistant.
She is survived, in addition to her husband and loving mother, by daughter Dorothy Colleen McKernan of Levittown, PA, siblings; Patricia McHale and husband Michael of Westminster, MD and Charles McCullough and wife Kathalyn of Crofton, MD, nieces; Shannon, Erin Rae and Tori, nephew Irvin, stepfather, Terence Jackson, aunts and uncle; Connie and John Shannon and Nancy Jane Smith. Jen is also survived by in-laws and relatives from her Smoker, Shannon, and McCullough extended families and by her friends Karen Owens and Mick McKernan and his family. She was preceded in death by her father, son John Martin (Mickey) McKernan, sister Leah Rae McCullough, grandparents Onez and Bert Shannon, and many other Pitts, Shannon, McCullough, and Clark relatives. Jennifer will be dearly missed by us all, but never forgotten.
Jen loved reading and writing poetry, listening to music, reading fiction, playing the piano, cooking, and making social media friendships. Jen’s family wishes to thank those friends who offered her companionship. Jen found happiness in helping other people during their difficult times and suffering, too.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11:00am from the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA. Visitation and viewing from 10 to 11:00am. Interment will be scheduled at a later date at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Brooklyn, MD.
