Jane Haslett Worthy

March 2, 1921 — December 3, 2015

Jane Haslett Worthy passed away quietly in her sleep December 3, 2015 at her Willow Valley home in Willow Valley, Pennsylvania. She was a resident of Willow Valley since
moving there in 2010 after her husband of 61 years, Paul C Worthy, passed away in 2009.
Jane was born March 2, 1921 in Philadelphia, PA. She was baptized, raised in and married at Landsdowne Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Lansdowne High
School in 1939. During World War II, Jane and her twin sister Julia worked at General Electric. Jane worked as a “draftsman” and continued in that role until her marriage in
1948. Jane met her future husband, Paul, on a blind date with her sister Julia and Julia’s husband Harden Vollmer. Jane and Paul were married in January, 1948 in
Philadelphia, PA. During their marriage, Jane and Paul lived in Media, PA where Jane focused on raising their two daughters, pursued her passion for gardening and her love
of needlepoint.

Jane was a strong athlete, playing multiple sports in high school. She and her sister led their Landsdowne HS basketball team to two undefeated seasons in 1937-38 and
1938-39. They continued their basketball careers on the GE Women’s team in AAU’s Philadelphia Industrial League. Jane developed a love of horses when she worked as
an ‘exercise’ girl for local polo pony clubs. In later years, Jane and Paul played tennis together and golfed regularly. In the mid-1980s, Jane was particularly proud when she
received her private pilot’s license - something she and Paul had taken up upon retirement. She also developed a passion for gardening and received acclamations and
awards for her flower entries in both local shows and the Philadelphia Flower Show. While a resident at Willow Valley, Jane served as the Flower Committee Chair for The
Manor at Willow Valley.
Jane was one of four “Haslett” siblings; Catharine Gibson, John Haslett, and Julia Vollmer all of whom have predeceased her. She is survived by her daughters, Diane W
Braselman of Aiken South Carolina, Judith W Henry of Knoxville Tennessee, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
