James S. Purcell, Jr., 88, of Paradise, formerly of Parkesburg, passed away on Friday, August 6, 2010 while under the care of Hospice of Lancaster County at the Essa Flory Hospice Center. He was the husband of Lillian Klecha Purcell with whom he shared 61 years of marriage. Born in Oxford, he was the son of the late James S. and Leora Conner Purcell.
Jim proudly served in the US Army during WWII in the European African Theatre as a military policeman.
He was employed by Quebecor Printing retiring in 1987. Jim was a parishioner of Our Lady of Consolation Church in Parkesburg and a member of the Parkesburg VFW Post #4480.
He is survived, in addition to his wife, by five children; Leora W., wife of Joel Anderson of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, James S. Purcell, III of Downingtown, John P. Purcell of Plano, Texas, Jeffery E. Purcell and wife Eva of Coatesville and Jerry M. Purcell and wife Kelly of Paradise, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson John R. Purcell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Consolation Church, 603 W. Second Ave., Parkesburg, PA 19365 followed by interment at the Parkesburg Catholic Cemetery. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend the viewing at the Church from 10:00 am to the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memoral donations may be made to Our Lady of Consolation Church at the above address.
